This standard shall apply only to manually operated metallic valves, sizes NPS 1/2through 2, which are suitable for controlling the flow of gas and have a pressurerating not in excess of 125 psig. These valves may be used in piping systemsdesign and operated at pressures not in excess of the pressure rating marked onthe valve and in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49, Part192, “Minimum Safety Standards for Transportation of Natural and Other Gas byPipe Line”, ASME B31.8, or ANSI Z223.1. The standard shall apply to valvesoperated in a temperature environment between -20 F and 150 F. This standardsets forth the minimum capabilities, characteristics, and properties which a valve atthe time of manufacture must possess, in order to be considered suitable for use ingas piping systems. Details of design and manufacture, other than those stated inthis standard, including such design and production tests that will produce a valvethat will have the required capabilities to meet this standard, remain theresponsibility of the manufacturer. Each test in which damage to the valve couldresult, i.e.,Tests 3.3,.3.4.1, 3.4.2,3.4.3 and 3.4.4, shall be conducted on new unusedsamples of the valve.
