Applies to the construction, installation, operation, inspection, and maintenance ofcrawler cranes, locomotive cranes, wheel-mounted cranes, and any variationsthereof which retain the same fundamental characteristics. The scope includes onlycranes powered by internal combustion engines or electric motors. Side boomtractors and cranes designed for railway and automobile wreck clearance, diggerderricks cranes manufactured specifically for, or when used for, energized electricalline service, knuckle boom, trolley cranes, and cranes having a maximum ratedcapacity of one ton or less are excluded. Special adaptations to the general type ofmachines covered by this volume, where applicable, fall under this scope. Somebasic machine types within this scope are convertible for excavating work and otheruses not considered to be lifting service. The requirements of this volume areapplicable only to such machines when used as lifting cranes.
